Watching our sweet old lab chase a chipmunk and trying to "convince" her that he was just trying to get home prompted a frenzied photo shoot to capture the moment and the story just started coming!
I think I completed my story in a little less than 2 days and did a bit of editing while on a plane. That exhilaration upon hearing honest laughter after the first time it was read by someone else...PRICELESS.
A storyboard or dummy book helps you to see the layout and check the flow of the text and pages. It's also good for deciding which illustrations will go on which page.
Here are a few sketches I have put on paper, just gathering ideas and deciding design direction and flow. None of this will happen if our new kitten gets a say. OMG it's like having a toddler.
Currently, I do have a publisher I am speaking with but have not ruled out self-publishing. I am still working on the illustrations and will need to speak with the publisher to decide how to go forward.
I also hope to do a reading at my grandchildren's schools to see how it is received.
Fingers, eyes and legs crossed that everyone laughs!
